SUICIDE BOMBING IN YOBE
There was pandemonium in the commercial town of Potiskum, Yobe State, on Monday as a suicide bomber, believed to be a member of the Islamic fundamentalist group, Boko Haram detonated a bomb on a procession of Shiites Muslim group celebrating the new Islamic year.
A resident of the town, Mohammed Ali said the bombing, which claimed 10 lives, happened at the Tsohuwar Kasuwa area of the town at about 10.30am, throwing the area into confusion, while residents fled in different directions.Ali said, “We all had to return home to seek safety as the explosion was followed by sporadic gunshots.
“The security operatives responded with sporadic gunshots to show their readiness to stem any attack on the town and this caused panic with people fleeing back to their homes, leaving the streets empty.”
* Meanwhile public schools in Borno will re-open 17th november.
The schools were shut early in the year due to security concern.
Recall that the schools were shut on March 14, after deadly attacks by the Boko Haram on schools in neighbouring Yobe State.
